1976 - Range Rover Carmichael 6X4 French... - Lot 25 - Aguttes
1976 - Range Rover Carmichael 6X4 French collector's registration Chassis number 35522156D - Absolute rarity - Unknown youngtimer - Elegant configuration In 1966, Land Rover designers started working on a new 2-door concept called "Velar". The goal was to create a vehicle with the same driving capabilities as the Land Rover, but with superior comfort and road manners. English and avant-garde: the Range has become a myth over the years. It's got a great face, comfort, impressive cargo volume, and above all, it's a snob! A pioneer of its kind, it has what it takes to seduce a wealthy and offbeat clientele looking for a real "Swiss Army knife" for their cars. It is no longer the only one in the world, but it is still the reference in the luxury 4x4 segment. Revealed on the market in 1970, the Range Rover Classic will be produced for 26 years before giving way to the more modern P38. The British tuner Carmichael converted Range Rovers for firefighters into six-wheel drive as early as 1971, and then for more extensive commercial use. This work lasted until the 1990s, after only about 400 examples were produced. The owner of this atypical vehicle, in love with Land Rovers, was looking for a long time for one of these very rare examples... It was in England that he found the rare gem: "Everyone was honking when I brought it back, because it was right-hand drive, and I had to get out of the car at the toll booth to get the ticket. The decision was made to convert it to left-hand drive. Very busy, our collector will not have had the time to travel far with his 6X4, since the planned trip to Namibia will be cancelled due to Covid. The paintwork is recent and complete, despite a few body defects typical of a home-made production. The beige leather interior has a nice patina and benefits from a panoramic sunroof. Mechanically, the 3.5L V8 has been replaced by a 3.9L. Note that the drive shaft between the two rear axles was removed and is therefore missing. A lot of maintenance work has been done recently to allow an optimal reliability: soon owner being avid of long trips did not hesitate to go on vacation in Spain recently! Notice to all, this youngtimer typical of the zany projects of the 1970/80's is a unique opportunity.
