Let it begin, 2010 Acrylic on canvas, signed and dated on reverse Acrylic on canvas, signed and dated on reverse 119 x 84 cm 46 7/8 x 33 1/16 in. ERRÖ Born 1932 in Olafsvik, Guðmundur Guðmundsson, known as ERRÖ, is an Icelandic artist who founded the Narrative Figuration movement in France. ERRÖ trained as an artist in Reykjavik, Oslo, Florence and Ravenna before moving in 1958 to Paris, where he met several artists associated with the Surrealist movement, including André Breton, Max Ernst, Man Ray and Joan Miro. In the early 1960s, Errö embarked on the Narrative Figuration adventure with several artists including Eduardo Arroyo, Hervé Télémaque and Valerio Adami. He created works using a vocabulary taken from everyday life while integrating social and political demands. The New Figuration artists aimed to show a complete narrative scheme in one work. They achieved this either by sequences, polyptychs or the movement of objects on the canvas. Errö executed his narrative scheme by repeating a subject throughout the same composition. The deeply committed New Figuration artists created works as a form of protest against consumer society and support for socio-political struggles. In 1986, Errö represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale. The Galerie Louis Carré & Cie has represented him in France since 2012. Galerie Perrotin hosted a solo show of his work in New York in 2016.
