1932 Delage D8 S Torpédo Sport Chapron
French registration title The most iconic Delage touring car ever produced Very exclusive model produced in 145 examples, only 33 survivors known Highly sophisticated engine: semi-desmodromic valve train, oil sump cooled by ventilation tubes, electric fuel pump; special chassis, low suspension Bodywork by Chapron, «Torpedo Sport» design; two examples known, the only one in the S version Car fully restored in 2006-2007, more than 70,000 € of invoices; competition condition, no MOT At the 1929 Motor Show, Delage presented the D8, an emblematic touring car which, like the Bugattis in particular, was distinguished by a superb 8-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 4 litres and 100 hp. At the beginning of the 1930s, the range was extended by the very exclusive and noble D8S, which was distinguished by its low-slung chassis and its engine with 120 hp. The best coachbuilders quickly made it one of their favourite bases. The car we present here is exceptional in more than one way, notably by its finish (S), CHAPRONits bodywork (Chapron) and the quality of its restoration. Three characteristics that immediately place it on the level of the competition beasts... It must be said that its long bonnet, its tapered wings, its minimalist windscreen and its finely stretched bonnet offer a design of rare harmony. There is nothing to take away, nothing to add to this incredible Chapron design. As for the restoration, which dates back fifteen years now, its quality is incredible! This is normal when you know that the best French specialists have worked on the car, among them the companions of the Atelier Concept et Restauration, founded by Jean-Luc Bonnefoy. Little seen in recent years, and even less so on the international scene, this Delage D8S will seduce the discerning enthusiast who is looking for a pre-war car capable of taking it to the world’s most beautiful rallies, or parading in the most prized elegance competitions. If it doesn’t win the Best of Show, it’s a safe bet that this Delage is at least a class winner...
