3 L.A.S. and 12 L.S. "C. de Gaulle" (one with autograph compliment), 1948 - 1960, to Raymond BRUGÈRE, French ambassador; 18 pages in-4 or in-8 on his letterhead Le Général De Gaulle. Interesting correspondence to a former ambassador, founding member of the R.P.F. [Raymond BRUGÈRE (1885 - 1966) had a good career in diplomacy; he resigned in June 1940, refusing to serve the Vichy government, which had him interned from 1942 to 1944; he ended his diplomatic career as French ambassador in Belgium (1944 - 1947)] December 20, 1948, on an article in La France intérieure: "You underline with much accuracy this absence of France in the world politics and it is quite true that the remedy is within us"... May 20, 1949, on his article "underlining the necessity for France to become aware of its role in the construction of a Europe and of the obligations which result from it [...]. Nothing serious and lasting will be done as long as our policy is not inspired by this fundamental idea"... June 24. "The report of Mr. Aron and the statement you made to me of the working rules adopted by the Foreign Affairs Commission, have allowed me to see how fruitful the exchanges of views that you have decided to make at regular intervals could be"... June 20, 1950. The project of constitution of the European Liberation Committee is too important to be launched "at the fires of the Assizes" without having been studied beforehand... July 4. "In accordance with the Instruction on the organization of the French People's Rally of November 13, 1947, I have appointed you as a member of the National Council"... August 11, L.A.S. inviting Brugère to lunch in Colombey: "We will thus have the occasion to talk a little at leisure"... September 9, L.A.S.: "Agreed for September 30. Brugère's cooperation with those who form the Private Union is useful for action in the service of the country, and touches the general. "Events are rushing forward.
