CASSINI Jean-Dominique (1748 - 1845) astronome et cartographe
L.A.S. "Cassini", Paris 14 prairial X (3 June 1802); 1 page in-4. He asks his correspondent to intervene with the Minister of War in favor of his son... "My son is in the war depot; does he have talent? Yes, his chiefs answer, and more than most of his comrades. Is he a good subject? Perfect, we know few better. Well then, employ him, admit him to the competition, no favors... the Competition is not admitted, they appoint by seniority and my son is rejected. The son of the author of the map of France, whose remains are in the custody of the War Department, cannot, with the talents that correspond to his name, obtain any preference, or even justice. General Andréossy himself could not do anything for him, not being able, for lack of funds, to employ one more student: "everything depends on the Minister [...] Please obtain from the Minister some positive answer about my son and about the Map of France"...
