VIGNY Alfred de (1797 - 1863)
L.A.S. "Alfred de Vigny", Paris November 22, 1845, to Victor HUGO; 1 page in-8. Beautiful letter of friendship to Hugo after the scandal of his adultery flagrante delicto. [Surprised on July 3 with his mistress Léonie Biard, Hugo had taken refuge in the country]. "I have sought you several times to meet you, dear Victor. You were probably not allowed to ignore it. I have had the good fortune to find Madame Hugo or your Angelica Adele a few times, but never you. Paul [Foucher] told me that you had been seriously ill in the country. It has always seemed to me that in convalescence one needs to see one's old friends. If you feel as I do, please write me what morning, what time, I can find you alone. My dear Lydia has just been so seriously ill that I cannot go out in the evening for some time"...Correspondence, t. V, n° 45-118.
