ÉCOLE NATURALISTE DU XIXe SIECLE
Servant in the kitchen Oil on canvas. Trace of signature on the bowl (?) Height : 100 cm - Width : 81 cm Framed. The painting depicts a young maid dressed in a green camisole and a red and black striped skirt sitting at a table peeling a bunch of carrots. This painting is reminiscent of "The Kitchen Girl" painted by Chardin in 1738. These genre scenes fell into oblivion at the end of the 18th century, but the 19th century rehabilitated them and even brought them to the pinnacle with a master like Jean-François Millet. This naturalist trend portrays peasants, workers and the poor in their daily lives.
