PAIR OF EGYPTIAN FLAMPS in gilded bronze representing a gilded bronze vase topped by two winged ibises wearing on their heads two bobbins and a third at the meeting of their wings. They rest on a blackened wood base decorated with fancy hieroglyphs. 19th century. Height : 47 cm - Width : 16,5 cm Depth : 12 cm The fascination of Egypt reached its peak with the Napoleonic campaigns of 1798. The opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 will revive the interest for this country full of mysteries, symbols and especially of exoticism.
