ATTRIBUÉ À PIERRE-PHILIPPE THOMIRE (1751 - 1843)
Rare pair of torches in chased bronze and gilded with fire. The circular base is decorated with a row of pearls, a gorge and a garland of laurel leaves and ribbon bows. Above, the doucine part presents groups of three descending flutes, alternating with suspended bouquets of roses, and ends with a constriction surmounted by a stepped entablature where the shaft rests. The spindle-shaped shaft, whose circumference is divided into three similar registers, each presenting a lion's mask holding in its mouth a garland of laurel leaves, alternating with three flutes, ends in its upper part with an entablature with protrusions and a row of pearls supporting the socket in the form of a footed shower vase recalling by its decoration the lower part of the doucine: bunches of hanging roses and groups of three vertical flutes. The bobèche carries on its wing, in recall with the base, a row of pearls. Louis XVI period. Height : 29 cm - Width : 15 cm Pierre Jean Thomire, known under the name of Pierre-Philippe, was one of the best founders, chiseller, assembler, gilder, of his time. The work of Thomire was inspired at that time by antiquity "the Greek fashion", all in strength, symbolizing virility.
