RARE VASE BALUSTRE in cracked porcelain or... - Lot 93 - Aguttes
RARE VASE BALUSTRE in cracked porcelain or "truitée" of China, the handles in the shape of lizard taken in the mass. It rests on a chased and gilded bronze base with canals and acanthus leaves. The neck is encircled by a chased and gilded bronze frame with acanthus leaves. Louis XV period. Height : 45 cm One of the best definitions of cracked china is the one made in the sale catalog of Mr Angran de Fonpertuis written in 1747. "One can make porcelain of all colors, but the most used are, 1st, the Yellow, which is only for the use of the Emperor. The gray porcelain, which is close to celadon, is less commonly seen in France: it is most often chopped up with an infinite number of small irregular lines that cross each other, as if the vase were cracked in all its parts, or else there are large stripes whose effect is even more noticeable. This porcelain is usually called "Truitée" or "Craquelée", depending on the size or smallness of the cracks.
