ATTRIBUÉE À JACQUES CAFFIERI (1678 - 1755)
Pair of rocaille light arms in chased and gilded bronze. They present two arms each and answer each other symmetrically: scrolls of acanthus leaves and branches of flowers. Louis XV period. Height : 38 cm - Width : 36 cm - Depth : 22 cm Jacques Caffieri is the most famous of the bronziers who worked for Louis XV, he is the son of the sculptor Philippe Caffieri who worked at Versailles during the time of Louis XIV. One can only admire in his work the extent of the forms and the safety of the meanders, even in appearance the most crazy. He is mentioned in the accounts of the Bâtiments du Roi as a sculptor and a gilder. He is the author of the famous Passement planetary clock, kept at the Château de Versailles. COMPARATIVE A similar pair of arms is kept in the Louvre Museum and comes from the Castle of Colorno (Italy) where lived Madame Infante, Duchess of Parma and eldest daughter of Louis XV (1727 - 1759). Reproduced on page 54 of the book Les bronzes d'ameublement du Louvre.
