JEAN-JACQUES POTHIER (REÇU MAÎTRE EN 1750)
Rare and important painted beech armchair, white color and gondola shape, very finely carved with foliage, flowers, rosettes and ribbons. It rests on cambered feet with scrolls. Stamped by Pothier. Transitional period. Height : 100 cm - Width : 76 cm Depth : 65 cm (Restorations of use) Jean-Jacques Pothier, whose varied work is marked by a very beautiful quality of manufacture, assembly and sculpture, is installed during about thirty years on the rue Mazarine then on the rue de Bourbon-Villeneuve. His Louis XV chairs, very sober, are remarkable for the suppleness of their lines and the fluidity of their moldings. Jean-Jacques Pothier and the famous carpenter Georges Jacob seem to have collaborated in the execution of certain orders. Indeed, we know of similar chairs bearing one or the other stamp. He was also one of the first to apply neoclassicism to chairs and made some masterpieces in the Transition style.
