Full porphyry calf, triple gilt fillet with corner fleurons framing 12 cold circles, spine decorated with spine decorated with gilded irons and fleurons, brown morocco title and brown morocco, double gilt fillet on the edges, inner gilt roulette gilt edges, blue paper endpapers (period binding). One of the copies on Hollande paper of this great classic classic of 18th century bibliophily, in a second edition (plate CLXXII illustrating illustrating Le Singe et le Léopard, volume III, p.111, includes the legend on the banner). This magnificent edition is illustrated with a portrait-frontispiece finished by Dupuis and engraved by Cochin (the portrait of Oudry engraved by by Tardieu after Largillière is missing as often), and 275 plates engraved by Chedel, Cochin, Aubert, Aveline, Baquoy, etc. after the drawings of Jean-Baptiste Oudry.
