Recueil d'édits, déclarations, ordonnances, arrêts et règlemens, concernant l'Hôtel Royal des Invalides. Paris : Imprimerie royale, 1781. Two volumes in-4, XX-XV-402-XVII pages and XVI-361-XX pages. Contemporary marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated with flowers, burgundy morocco title and giblets. Important historical source on the Invalides under the Ancien Régime. The Hôtel Royal des Invalides is one of the most famous military hospitals in France. It was founded in 1670 by Louis XIV for the benefit of "poor officers and soldiers who, having died in the service or who, in past wars having been crippled, were not only unable to continue to give us their services, but also to do anything to be able to live and subsist. Its creation marks the starting point of a real policy of "public health". (Covers damaged, hinges a little split, corners dull; a few leaves reddened).
