Description of the Royal Church of the Invalides. Paris : printing house of Jacques Quillau, 1706. In-folio, frontispiece, engraved title, 143-(1) pages, a plan. Contemporary red morocco, spine with ornamented nerves, crowned figure "L" repeated in the inter-nerves, triple gilt fillet around the boards, royal coat of arms in the center, lace on the necks and around the back covers, gilt edges. Ex-libris of the architect Georges Lisch. First edition, rare, of this superb description of the church Saint-Louis des Invalides given by the architect Jean-François Félibien des Avaux, published the year of its consecration. The work is illustrated with a view of the Invalides in the frontispiece, a plan of the church, a large title finial and 21 headpieces and culs-de-lampe, and 11 historiated lettrines. The entire text is decorated with historiated frames (4 different ones repeated). Berlin Kat. no. 2486; Cohen 377. (Some scuffing on the boards, nerves rubbed at the hinge joints, notwithstanding a fine copy). Coat of arms skillfully restored on each board (leather slightly different from the rest of the binding).
