[INVALIDES - LEPAUTRE (Pierre)].
[Fourteen plates of plans, sections and elevations of the church of the Invalides]. S. l. n. d. [For the King's Cabinet, 1687]. In-folio, 14 plans engraved with etching and burin, mounted on tabs, most of them folding. Contemporary red morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, crowned numeral "L" in the inter-nerves, boards decorated with a double frame of triple gilt fillet, crowned numeral in spandrels, royal arms in the center, lace on the cuts and around the counterpanes. Rare collection of 14 plans, sections and elevations of the Invalides by the engraver, draftsman, architect and ornamentalist Pierre Lepautre (1652-1716). It includes : 1- Ground floor plan of the church of the hostel royale des Invalides ; 2- Plan above the Doric order of the outside & the Corinthian, at the level of the foot of the east where the great vaults originate; 3- First plan of the dome tower, the staircases, & the attic of the Invalides church ; 4- 2nd plan of the dome tower, at the level of the balustrade ; 5- 3rd plan of the dome tower, at the level of the large attic ; 6- 4th plan of the dome tower at the level of the small attic ; 7- 5th plan of the dome's roof and the lantern; 8- Elevation of the dome's portal; 9- Cross-section of the church's crossing; 10- Cross-section of the church in a diagonal line; 11- Cross-section along the length of the church; 12- Cross-section of the sanctuary and view from behind the church's entrance; 13- Cross-section of the crossing and two of the church's four corner chapels; 14- Elevation of one side of one of the church's sides. The Comptes du roi mention at the date of April 13, 1687 a payment of 1 150 to Lepautre for 14 engraved plates. One can suppose that the execution of these monumental engravings was made during the year 1686. "A very rare work, since there were only a few copies printed to establish the estimate. (Bibliotheca Uilenbroukiana, Amsterdam, 1729, no. 465, pp. 102-103, section "Livres et estampes de l'impression du Louvre, ou du Cabinet du Roi"). It is rare to find these 14 engravings together. (Binding a little rubbed, some scratches on the first board; two plans a little reddened, some old restorations to the folds). Maxime Préaud, Inventaire du fonds français, graveurs du XVIIe siècle, tome 13, Pierre Lepautre, BnF, n° 266-279.
