BRIDGE Frank (1879 - 1941)
L.A.S., "Frank Bridge", Kensington 24 January 1926, to Lucien GARBAN; 2 pages in-8 at his address; in English. He relays for the sending of the Pavane [Pavane pour une infante défunte by RAVEL], which he is going to have played by an orchestra of professionals and amateurs who give concerts in the poor part of London. He mentions the orchestras of Boston and Philadelphia: "They are marvellous! He finished his Sonata in March 1924, not very different from the 3 Poems he had played in Garban in 1915. "Except that ten years is 10 years... He had started it in 1921! He wanted to write something easier, that the majority of pianists could play, but things turned out differently : "I hoped to write something EASY that the majority of pianists could, & perhaps would, play ! But, that is how it has turned out. You see what happens to good intentions".... He will leave at the end of March for New York and California...
