PISSARRO Camille (1830-1903).
L.A.S. "C. Pissarro", Paris 15 September 1887, to HIS WIFE Julie PISSARRO; 4 pages in-8. Letter to his wife about their sons Georges and Lucien. [Lucien Pissarro (1863-1944) began to exhibit and to be recognized, especially as a draftsman. For the young Georges (1871-1961), who would take the name Manzana-Pissarro, his father wanted him to take up the decorative arts]. "At last you listen to me - in whom do you want to trust if not in the one who only wants to please you, I am sorry at times to see that my experience of people is of no use to me. You mustn't send George again! - and for reasons that you, who are so proud, so good a mother, will understand when I tell you in person [...] I want to succeed alone at all costs, and for that I see clearly that it is only through my work that I will succeed, I must. I will go today to the Industrial Arts Exhibition to get some information about Georges' business. Because of the announcement of Georges' arrival, [...] I had to neglect my VAN GOGH case, where I can only come at one o'clock, and BELLIO's case as well, so that I don't know what happened with the friends who went there. [ Do not send Georges to me, I am going to do some more shopping for my business and then I will leave [...] I met Paul ALEXIS last night, I asked him to go and see my paintings at Boussod's and Valladon's, I am sending some people there, - we must of course wait for all these visits from some and others to have their effect. - When the amateurs return, I hope we will have some sort of result. See you soon, dear wife, and believe that I love you too much not to make an effort. [ Lucien is doing well, he is making progress. - Ah, my dear Julie, how right I was to resent those who ranted against him, I am proud to have such a brave boy. And you know a good son! - While I'm waiting to go there, tell George to make me a decoration project with his pumpkin drawings for the drawer of my library"...
