MUNCH Edvard (1863-1944).
2 L.A.S. "Edvard Munch", [1930s, to Johs ROEDE]; 2 pages in-8 each, hotel headers; in Norwegian. Interesting letters to his lawyer. [Johs ROEDE (1875-1958) was Munch's lawyer; a great collector himself, he was the brother of Halfdan Nobel ROEDE (1877-1963), a pianist, composer, film producer and director, and theatre director, a great art lover, who collected Munch's paintings, whose works he exhibited in his theatres and cinemas] Opdal (Opdal Turisthotel). He complains of economic difficulties, despite his apartments, which he wants to rent or sell... He also wants to move to see more space... Göteborg (Grand Hotel Haglund). He bought [in 1916] his property in Ekely 55.000 crowns, it was too expensive. He contacted his childhood friend the architect Henrik Bull, who thinks it is worth hardly more than 60.000 now. He reports a conversation with Jens THIIS (director of the National Gallery in Oslo) about his bad reputation: he is called a big landlord, and the rumour grows that he neglects his paintings and keeps them in bad conditions...
