MONET CLAUDE (1840-1926).
L.A.S. "your old Claude", London 12 February 1900, to HIS WIFE ALICE; 4 pages in-8 on the letterhead of the Savoy Hotel. Nice letter about his work in London for the Thames views. ... "you think I will use the time to bring back good things if possible. I started work yesterday and today a little more but the weather is terribly variable. [...] I don't have a room as such but a huge reception room where I will leave my things, because I will have to paint in the open air, or at least on a covered terrace. [...] I am doing very well and as I have had a lot of time to get out and about I am sleeping wonderfully. There have been 14 degrees here and a lot of snow, but fortunately it is melting. It is going to be the thaw, hence this terrible fog, and I think I will have to be on the lookout for the effects often. Let's go, my good old friend, see you tomorrow, I kiss you as I love you"...
