MONET CLAUDE (1840-1926).
3 L.A.S. "Claude Monet", Giverny July-September 1890, to Stéphane MALLARMÉ; 1, 1 1/2 and 2 pages in-8, in purple ink, 2 envelopes (ink a little faded with ink discharges). Mallarmé's visit to Giverny with Berthe Morisot. 11 July. "Dear friend You are very kind to have remembered your promise. I am sad and discouraged by the weather and painting, your visit will give me double pleasure"... July 21. "My dear Mallarmé You will be very kind to send me the recipe for chanterelles, they abound at the moment and greed makes me remember your promise. I hope that your return to Mézy went well and that you all arrived safely. I was very happy to have you in Giverny and hope that similar days will be repeated next summer. [...] Alas, the poor painter always despairs of bad weather". 22nd September. He has received his kind letter, "in spite of its so nice address (because a clever postman could have kept it) [...] We have not been able to take advantage of the good receipts yet, having had all sorts of troubles, first of all my poor son who has been very ill for a month in the military hospital in Le Hâvre, where I had to go several times to see him. I was very worried for a while because he was close to having a chest cold - fortunately he is now fully recovered. And the maid left: "the house was all disorganized and the painter's work was well interrupted"...
