~Female nude kneeling, a vessel on her head Rio rosewood Signed "Androusow" on the base Numbered "1" with impressed manufacturer's mark "Édition/SAS Paris" and "Made in France" to underside PROVENANCE Private collection, France NOTE In their monograph devoted to Jacques Adnet published by Éditions de l'Amateur in 2009, Alain-René Hardy and Gaëlle Millet describe the statuettes of the Adnet brothers "carved in exotic logs, mahogany and Rio rosewood, by the workshop S.A.S. (Société anonyme de sculpture ?), specialized in the production of sculptures for the salon; they bear the engraved mark on the underside, in addition to the Adnet's signature on the side. They deplore: "We have little information on this workshop which also made pieces signed by the Martel brothers. Was it only a maker for the authors, a subcontractor for a publisher, or a publisher itself?" They deplore: "We have little information on this workshop which also made pieces signed by the Martel brothers. Was it only a manufacturer for the authors, a subcontractor for a design editor, a design editor itself? He tactfully models harmonious forms, always youthful, infinitely sensitive. André Arbus, who prefaces his exhibition, rightly writes that Androusov has "a nostalgia for the ancient, a feeling for pure proportions" and that he gives us both "with life itself. The figures of women and adolescents that the artist brings together in a serene cenacle, testify to the accuracy of this assertion."
