1962 Citroën DS 19 Cabriolet Le Caddy (R)
Replica based on a sedan Great quality of production Attractive estimate French title No technical inspection Chassis n° 4239953 The lines of the DS, presented in 1955, were a great inspiration for the coachbuilder Henri Chapron, who proposed, three years later, his sublime interpretation in the form of a «convertible». Convinced by the proposal, Citroën integrated it in its range from 1960, entrusting the production to the coachbuilder from Levallois-Perret. Until 1971, they will be called “factory cabriolet «. Chapron will also offer its own range, including an «in-house» cabriolet, called the Caddy. In October 1960, the press was full of praise, with Le Figaro headlining «A shocking novelty: a convertible with particularly pure lines». ParisPresse added: «A feast for the eyes. Taking all the technical innovations of the sedan, no European convertible would match the beauty and comfort of the DS for several years, well helped by the superiority of its hydropneumatic suspension, ahead of its time.” The DS cabriolet presented here is a reconstruction of a DS Chapron Le Caddy, based on a sedan produced in July 1962. It has a very elegant Bordeaux bodywork, combined with a brown leather interior. The car was completely rebuilt, from presumably authentic Le Caddy body parts, about ten years ago by a reputable workshop in eastern France. The workmanship is absolutely flawless. The paintwork is of the highest quality and the leather upholstery has no wear at all. The current owner will finally not use his car very much, having bought it in 2015. Today, following a small immobilization, it should be noted that the hydraulic gearbox needs a revision. The engine runs perfectly and the suspension works normally. This superb DS is only waiting for its next owner to take the road again, the wind in your hair!
