Tibet, 19th century Two thangkas; one depicting Shakyamuni Buddha seated in meditation on a lotus, the right hand taking the earth as a witness, the left holding the alms bowl, surrounded by two disciples, monks and several worshippers; the other depicting four abbots or saints of Buddhism seated on thrones in a stylized landscape with trees and watercourses; each bearing the three consecration characters on the reverse. Worn protective panel in front of each.
