VERLAINE PAUL (1844-1896)
L.A.S. "P. Verlaine", Paris 3 February 1886, to Émile COHL; 2 pages in-8 (mourning; small cracks repaired). After the death of his mother. [Verlaine lost his mother on 21 January. It is addressed here to the Montmartre photographer and cartoonist Émile COHL (1857-1938), who will be the father of the cartoon]. "Did Vanier give you a drawing of my dead mother, which I asked you a few days ago to make 3 large-format photographs, - and to frame very simply. And do you have half a dozen of my photographs at my disposal?" He gives his address: "5 rue Moreau, 6 cour Saint-François". Finally, Verlaine asks Cohl to come and see him: "I've been bedridden, you know, with rheumatism, for more than 5 months. [...] I may soon leave for a hospice to heal faster."
