LOUYS Pierre (1870-1925)
L.A.S. "Pierre Louÿs", January 27 [1922], to a friend [WILLY?] ; 4 pages in-8. One week after his promotion as an officer of the Legion of Honor. Sick for more than two months, Louÿs, a stranger to Parisian life, is obliged to decline an invitation to dinner and explain why he has kept the room for three years: "I could not go out tomorrow to kill the tiger in India, nor to smoke a cigarette in your house, alas! [...] Thank you for your kind congratulations but the buttonhole metamorphoses are a little late in my room. I haven't yet bought a rosette, although the Chancellor invites me to do so by a printed formula in which he warns me that the State does not give any and that I will find some at the "order makers".
