Large elephant carrying a midnight blue crystal vase with gilt bronze ornamentation, metal tusks. It rests on a dark grey marble base with white veining, on a bronze frame. Engraved Baccarat and numbered 10/49 on the left front leg. Elephant : H: 30 cm; W: 41 cm; D: 13 cm Base: H: 6.5 cm; W: 35.5 cm; D: 23 cm (Cut crystal vase missing) Related works This elephant, centerpiece, echoes the one the Maison Baccarat designed for the 1878 World's Fair at the Palais du Trocadéro. Later, in 1920, Baroda's maharajah ordered the Elbeuf service for the tables of his Indian palaces as well as a replica of this elephant. A similar model in transparent crystal and serving as a liqueur cellar is kept in the Parisian Hôtel du Crillon.
