COCTEAU Jean (1889-1963)
L.A.S. "Jean", Toulon July 1938, to the decorator Coula ROPPA; 1 page in-4. Letter from his holidays in Toulon with Jean Marais. "I have just given Loï his 300 strokes of the stick every morning and he bears them wonderfully. He feeds us and forces Jeannot to eat. In exchange Jeannot teaches him how to swim. But, alas, he insists on swimming with his head under the waves. Your house is becoming more and more beautiful and I've given you a gift that I'm sure you'll like. What weren't you at the singing contest. I sent you a portrait of one of the contestants. Raymond M. has been kind in not showing any bad temper of our reproaches. I received the mystery package (not good) and a letter from Andrée who seems happy. [...] You - how can I thank you? My whole life wouldn't be enough. I wish I could be of service to you. - And it's always you who does favours for everyone. I love you and I kiss you"...
