DELACROIX Eugène (1798-1863)
MANUSCRIPT autograph signed "Delacroix", [circa 1815]; 3 pages and a half in-4 of a double leaf (some small ink spots). Drafts of the student's homework in French, Latin and Greek. Greek and Latin versions and themes; list of Greek words with their translation into Latin or French; Latin verses..., with two signature essays. Let us quote this version: "The hour when the eagle searches and flies is from its rest until the evening. ...] The upper part of their beak as they grow older becomes extremely large so that they starve to death because it always remains curved. They give their young abundant food; but as it is often not easy to provide it for them every day, when they have none they carry them outside. If they see anyone trying to take their young, they strike him with their wings and tear him with their nails." A Latin theme was painted by one painter: "Pictor quondam celeberrimus statuerat omnes populos una tabellâ pingere"... At the end, this curious note: "17 18 18 20 etc. slipper" The same subject is then put in Latin verses: "Pingendi quondam totus celeberrimus arte"...
