SERGE VASSILIÉVITCH GUERASSIMOV (1885-1964)
Sebastopol, Crimean War Monument, circa 1946 Oil on paper pasted on cardboard 24 x 30.9 cm A certificate of authenticity from T. Zelikov of the Tretyakov Gallery will be given to the purchaser. In the 1930s and 1940s, Gerasimov produced numerous views of the Crimea. Our painting depicts the Adamanson Monument erected in 1909 in memory of the Russian squadron of the Black Sea fleet destroyed in 1854 during the defence of Sevastopol. Our painting had to be executed shortly after the war as it still shows the wreck of a ship.
