His career took off in the 1970s, when he exhibited his all-over paintings. Through these works, he asserted very early on his desire to break with and question the norms of painting. In particular, he opposes notions of style and the status of a demiurge creator. In this sense, he regularly uses assistants, and changes his own biographical information with each exhibition or catalogue devoted to him, explaining that he considers only the work to be of interest, not the artist. Because "the market always demands the same image from artists, because people don't look at a painting, they simply recognise it." To disorient the viewer, Frize deliberately confuses the issue by continually changing his style. According to the artist, the essence of art lies in the act of painting. Spontaneity is a key element. In order to set up "the conditions of chance", as he puts it, he establishes technical constraints that allow or force him in a way to create semi-random forms that are sometimes full of humour He is represented by several galleries; Perrotin in Paris, Simon Lee in London, Micheline Szwajcer in
