LAFAYETTE MARIE-JOSEPH DE (1757-1834).
Signed autograph letter, signed « Lafayette », Paris 21 February 1833, to Charles-Pierre-Antoine de VIDAILLAN, in Metz; 1 page in-4 format, address, sealed with a blue wax seal (paper slightly browned); in French. Political letter relative to elections in the department of the Gers. A year before his death, Lafayette writes to Charles-Pierre-Antoine de Vidaillan (1798-1876), a historical biographer and friend with whom he is trying to straighten out a misunderstanding caused during an election in an electoral sector of France located in the Pyrenées Mountains and encompassing many communities. Charles-PierreAntoine de Vidaillan was running for a seat as « député du Gers ». He also mentions that Francois Arago, a scientist, and a personal friend used his Lafayette’s name and that of several friends to recommend Vidaillan to the 12 electors for the upcoming election. A superb political letter expressing his strong feelings of misunderstanding during this election.
