Post-war
& Contemporary Art

“The reality of a work lies in the threefold relationship established between the object it is, the painter who created it, and the one who observes it," said Pierre Soulages. I am delighted to contribute to unveiling and highlighting contemporary works, alongside sellers, artists, and their families.”

Ophélie Guillerot

In a constantly evolving market, contemporary art, from the post-war period to the present day, has experienced explosive growth. Aguttes’ Post-War & Contemporary art department has achieved a turnover of 5 million in this segment and is contributing to the setting of new records. Our department assists collectors, art lovers, and investors with appraisals, expert evaluations, purchases, and auctions of contemporary and post-war artworks.

The booming contemporary art and auction market

Ophélie Guillerot, director of the department, takes care to organize her sales in conjunction with current events in the french cultural scene or in conjunction with major fairs and events in the international art market, thereby offering numerous art lovers the opportunity to fully appreciate works from the contemporary art market, whether paintings, drawings, prints, or sculptures, with visibility in Paris. While she enjoys providing personalized advice and is highly responsive to selling clients, she acts as a true advisor to assist them with their purchases and investments. With dynamism and enthusiasm, our Post-War & Contemporary art department presents both individual works and private collections. Building on numerous world records and strong results achieved for these works, the department created a Women in Art section in 2025 to highlight female artists. Among them are Fabienne Verdier, Shiley Jaffe, as well as Anna Eva Bergman, Etel Adnan, and Parvine Curie.

Contemporary art auction: Aguttes’ records and successes

Works by Niki de Saint Phalle, Georges Mathieu, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Claude Viallat, Pierre Soulages, and many others have achieved exceptional sales and set historic records.
Recently, the department sold a painting by Pierre Soulages for €1.22 million, the first work by this major figure of 21st-century art to be auctioned following his passing in October 2022. This event has cemented Aguttes’s place in the history of contemporary art and on the international art market.
