André Mikhaliovitch Lanskoy, born in Moscow in 1902 and deceased in 1976, was a French painter of Russian origin. When the 1917 Revolution broke out, he joined the White Army in Kiev, where he was a refugee. Lanskoy fully dedicated himself to painting upon his arrival in Paris in 1921, where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. Wilhelm Uhde noticed him as early as 1924, and he exhibited his work in the Netherlands until 1939. After the war, his painting evolved towards abstraction. He is considered one of the last Russian representatives to have influenced the final generation of the École de Paris.
From gouaches to oils, including drawings, book illustrations, tapestries, and mosaics, Lanskoy’s work is diverse and varied, while never losing its precision. The Aguttes auction house regularly features his works, whether they be forgotten pieces buried in the art market or remarkable paintings cherished by collectors.
