Silverware & Tableware
French and European Silverware
Silverware is a specialty in its own right within the Furniture and Works of Art department. Our dedicated auctions feature numerous high-quality silver pieces from all periods and styles in the history of French and European silver craftsmanship. Goblets, flatware sets, candlesticks, and 18th-century wine tasters, wine coolers… Whether in solid silver, silver-plated metal, or vermeil, as well as objects made of gold and other precious metals, silverware can be found both in tableware and decorative arts.
Signatures and Masters of Silversmithing
These objects, which belong to the realm of decorative arts, often bear the hallmark and/or signature of the greatest master silversmiths such as Puiforcat, Christofle, Ercuis, Telge, Duguay, Falize, Auguste, Fannière, Odiot, Maison Têtard Frères, Thomas-Germain, Duvivier, Roëttiers, Froment-Meurice, Cahier, Besnier, Van Cauwenbergh, Biennais, Ballin, Fabergé, Ovchinnikov, Aucoc… These prestigious houses particularly stood out during the modernist movements of Art Nouveau and Art Deco.
Curiosities
Originating in Renaissance Europe, the cabinet of curiosities was a place where collected items were displayed, reflecting a taste for the eclectic and the unusual. Echoing this universe, our auctions entitled “Le Cabinet d’Amateur” present a refined selection of numismatics, silverware, and curiosities—including Ottoman and Russian creations such as those by Fabergé.
Silver Coins
Numismatics, practiced since Antiquity, is the study of medals and coins. It includes gold, silver, and various other coins from the ancient, medieval, semi-modern, and modern periods. Our auction house regularly organizes numismatic sales.
