Series 1 3.8 "Fastroad
1962
Chassis no. 877169
French collector's registration
French historic registration title
The Jaguar E-Type is renowned for its timeless beauty, so much so that it was one of the few automobiles to be exhibited
at New York's prestigious Museum of Modern Art. Produced from 1961, its design, by Malcolm Sayer and approved by
by founder Sir William Lyons, drew its inspiration from the aerodynamic lines of Jaguar's D-Type, victorious in the
24 Hours of Le Mans. Like the XK it replaced, it set a new benchmark for sports cars.
Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful examples we've had the chance to present, this E-Type is also the one
E-Type is also one of the most versatile, thanks to its advanced preparation for exceptional performance and ease of use. Purchased by a major Franco-Swiss collector in 2017, the car will undergo a facelift thanks to the adoption of variable-assist steering, a five-speed Tremec gearbox and more powerful brakes.
The modifications don't stop there, with an improved cooling system and extensive work on the running gear to optimize its handling.
to optimize handling and feedback to the steering wheel.
The interest of this model lies not only in its preparation. This car was delivered new to Rome in April
1962, in a Carmen Red color combination with beige leather interior. Its history is absolutely clear and documented: after its stay in Italy, the car was purchased in 1981 by Erich Traber, one of Europe's leading collectors and director of Établissements Graber. At the time, the car still wore its original paintwork and interior, and had just over 20,000 certified kilometers - one of the lowest mileage examples in the world.
This is what appealed to our collector, who wanted to start from an exceptional base and build the E-Type of his dreams.
Following his purchase, the car was completely restored, the body repainted in this very elegant Burgundy Red hue, with bespoke ostrich leather upholstery. Of course, the carpets, dashboard, center console and soft top receive the same exacting care.
Overhauled just prior to sale (engine no. R 5191-8, matching), this exceptional car is destined for a demanding collector looking for a car capable of covering thousands of kilometers without fear of fatigue. Reliable, high-performance and easy to handle, its looks and refinement should also appeal to those who haven't yet dared to take the vintage car plunge... Don't hesitate any longer, this no-cost car is an incredible, addictive and enjoyable machine!
In addition to the hammer price, the winning bidder must pay the following buyer's fees per lot:
