1996 - Ferrari 550 Maranello ex-Michael Schumacher Chassis no. ZFFZR49B000105067 Japanese export certificate "A Maranello with a total of just 10,000 km, and driven mostly by the legend Michael Schumacher at the height of his fame!" 20 July 1996, the Nürburgring circuit, crowds of people flocked to the first Ferrari Racing Days, organised by Ferrari's German importer, just as the factory did at Mugello and Jacques Swaters, the Belgian importer, did at Spa. And it was this event that was chosen to present the Prancing Horse marque's new road car, the 550 Maranello. For once, with the engine in a central rear position, the new model brings back to life the tempting concept of a front-engined V12 berlinetta, abandoned since the legendary 365 GTB4 Daytona. And alongside the Shell Ferrari Historical Challenge and a few demonstration laps by Michael Schumacher at the wheel of the F1 F310, it is the queen of the weekend. To mark the occasion, the Italian factory didn't skimp on the announcement effect, and summoned no less than 8 F1 drivers to take the wheel of 8 new 550 Maranello cars, including Lauda, Schekter, Irvine, Fisichella, Schumacher of course and Papis. It's Papis who takes the wheel of chassis #105067, with Argento Nürburgring bodywork and Cartier Red interior, which illustrates these pages. Photos of the event and a few videos give us a glimpse of our car almost 30 years ago... A few days later, she was again the star of the show in the inescapable Italian magazine Quattroruote (issue 490, August 1996), where she tested the newcomer. The 5.5-litre, 485 hp V12 offered exceptional performance, enabling this masterpiece of Pininfarina design to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 4.4 seconds - enough to leave the test journalist stunned... It seems that the car then remained the property of Ferrari, which left it for the use of Michael Schumacher. This was confirmed by the German legend in a letter signed by himself: ‘I am pleased to confirm that 550 Maranello chassis no. 105067 is the car I drove on many occasions. (...) I hope that its next owner will enjoy this car that I have loved for a long time’. This letter is dated 10 February 2003, when the car was exported to Japan, bound for the official importer Cornes & Co. On 23 June, the day Cornes put it up for sale, the dealership received no less than... 165 requests! The car had two owners in Japan, before returning to Europe with just over 10,000 km (10,008 km on the day of the photos!). Please note that the car, with its Japanese export certificate, is a temporary import (vehicle to be cleared through customs in the country of the future buyer), and that it has been very regularly maintained, including a change of belts in March 2019, at 9,729 km... If the 550 Maranello, of which only 3,083 were built, is a Ferrari to be collected as a matter of urgency before its rising price skyrockets, what can be said of this example, which ticks all the most exclusive boxes in a highly demanding market? Et c’est cet événement qui est choisi pour présenter la nouvelle voiture de route de la marque au Cheval Cabré, la 550 Maranello. Une fois n’est pas coutume, exit le moteur en position central arrière, le nouveau modèle remet au goût du jour le concept alléchant de berlinette à moteur V12 avant, abandonné depuis la légendaire 365 GTB4 Daytona. Et à côté du Shell Ferrari Historical Challenge et de quelques tours de démonstration de Michael Schumacher au volant de la F1 F310, c’est bien elle la reine du week-end. Pour marquer le coup, l’usine italienne n’a pas lésiné sur l’effet d’annonce, et a convoqué pas moins de 8 pilotes de F1 pour prendre le volant de 8 nouvelles 550 Maranello, dont Lauda, Schekter, Irvine, Fisichella, Schumacher bien sûr et Papis. C’est ce dernier qui prend le volant du châssis #105067, carrosserie couleur Argento Nürburgring, intérieur Rouge Cartier, qui illustre ces pages. Des photos de l’événement ainsi que quelques vidéos permettent de retrouver notre auto il a presque 30 ans… Quelques jours plus tard, c’est encore elle qui joue les stars dans l’incontournable revue italienne Quattroruote (numéro 490 d’août 1996) pour l’essai de la nouvelle venue. Le V12 de 5,5 l et 485 ch offre des performances exceptionnelles, permettant à ce chef d’œuvre de design signé Pininfarina d’abattre le 0 à 100 km/h en 4,4 secondes, de quoi laisser pantois le journaliste essayeur… Il semble que la voiture reste ensuite la propriété de Ferrari, qui la laisse à l’usage de Michael Schumacher. Ce qui est confirmé par la légende allemande dans courrier signé de sa main : « J’ai le plaisir de confirmer que la 550 Maranello châssis n° 105067 est la voiture que j’ai conduite à de nombreuses reprises. (…) J’espère que son prochain propriétaire appréciera cette auto que j’ai aimée pendant une longue période. » Ce courrier est daté du 10 février 2003, période à laquelle la voiture est exportée au Japon, a destination de l’importateur officiel Cornes & Co. Le 23 juin, jour où Cornes la met en vente, la concession va recevoir pas moins de… 165 demandes ! Elle aura deux propriétaires japonais, avant qu’elle ne retrouve le territoire européen, avec un tout petit peu plus de 10 000 km (10 008 km le jour des photos !). Merci de noter que la voiture, dotée de son certificat d’exportation japonais, est en importation temporaire (véhicule à dédouaner dans le pays du futur acheteur), et qu’elle fut entretenue très régulièrement, avec notamment un changement des courroies en mars 2019, à 9 729 km… Si la 550 Maranello, construite à seulement 3 083 exemplaires, est une Ferrari a collectionner de toute urgence avant que sa cote, qui grimpe, ne s’envole, que dire de cet exemplaire qui coche toutes les cases les plus exclusives dans un marché des plus exigeants ? To boost its image, Peugeot decided to enter competition with a model similar to the 205. The 205 Turbo 16 was developed to take part in the World Rally Championship in the premier Group B category. The regulations stipulate that 200 production models must be built to obtain homologation. The 205 Turbo 16 "série 200" was presented by the Sochaux-based manufacturer at the 1984 Geneva Motor Show. This body-built 205 is distinguished by its red-rimmed Magnum Grey body manufactured by Heuliez. La 205 Turbo 16 « série 200 » sera alors présentée par le constructeur sochalien lors du Salon de Genève 1984. Cette 205 bodybuildée se distingue par sa carrosserie Gris Magnum à liseré rouge fabriquée par Heuliez. Ferrari 308 Gr.B "Michelotto 1980 Chassis no. 30525 Italian registration document Italian registration title The end of the 1973 season marked an absolutely radical turnaround for the Prancing Horse firm. the 24 Hours of Le Mans and other events, Enzo Ferrari decided to turn all the Scuderia's efforts to Formula 1... Despite this difficult decision, some customers and private teams knocked at the door of the Maranello maestro with the aim of taking part in Group 4 races: Enzo Ferrari then proposed to Giuliano Michelotto to work with his Officina on the construction of an entirely new car, based on the 308. On March 2, 1978, the wizard from Padua presented his newborn, the now legendary "308 Gr. 4 Michelotto". While the body, made of fiberglass and Kevlar, was enlarged, very few elements were actually modified. Despite this, the beast boasted a weight of around 1 tonne, and a power output of almost 300 hp... Success followed, culminating in two victories in the Tour de France Automobile in 1981 and 1982. After 11 cars had been produced, the FIA regulations changed, and the 308 Michelotto moved up to Group B (a combination of Group 4 and Group 5). A number of modifications were made: the body was modified, with narrower fenders and the retention of certain steel parts (making the whole unit 30 kg heavier than the Gr.4s), and above all the Kugelfischer mechanical injection system was replaced by a Bosch K-Jetronic electronic injection system. Only four Ferrari 308 Gr.B Michelotto were produced, and all were commissioned by Pro Motor Sport, an Italian racing team. In addition to Michelotto, a large number of tuners tried their hand at preparing 308s, but it was only the wizard from Padua who succeeded in making this car even more precise and agile, thanks to very special work on the chassis... The 308 GTB that illustrates these pages was delivered in January 1980 to a certain Caterina Fassio, living in the province of in a rare shade of Blu Dino. She sold the car in April 1981 through the Turin Ferrari dealership to Claudio Pernini, who sold it in September to Scuderia Automobilistica Città di Milano, a Milan-based association headed by Virgilio Facetti (no relation to Carlo Facetti, another 308 tuner). It was in fact Panettoni Maina-Retequattro's racing team that had instigated a program to race Ford RX3s, Opel Kadett GTEs and a Ferrari 308. They enlisted the help of Virgilio Facetti and his Scuderia Città di Milano to manage the operation, and to drive the Ferrari 308 in the races. This driver has remained in the shadows of the great history of the automobile, despite his absolutely astonishing skills for the budgets he brought together: it was he who first prepared the 308 GTB #30525 via Effegi, a workshop he had set up shortly before in Milan. On its first outing, at the 1st Rally di Limone Piemonte on July 7, 1984, the car finished in 7th place. On its second competitive outing (the car had in the meantime opened the Rally Valli del Bormida), the car performed well and reached 3rd place in the Rally Tre Laghi 1984, just behind a Lancia 037 and a Porsche 911 Gr.4! After that, the car took part in the 7th Rally dell'Autodromo di Monza, this time without much success. On December 19, 1984, Virgilio Facetti asked Giuliano Michelotto to make the chassis and body of #30525 lighter. The two Italians had in fact met on the car's first outing, at the Rally di Limone Piemonte, where Michelotto had asked who had prepared the car's engine to find out how it worked so well! So Michelotto sent #30525 to Lino Cazzola's factory, to be given the same treatment as the four other 308 Gr.Bs already produced by his factory (copies of invoices on file). On the agenda: a change of bodywork to polyester and carbon Kevlar, and above all, an evolution of the chassis to meet Michelotto standards! The chassis was then numbered 18, a stamp still visible on the rear left-hand side of the frame. After leaving the Officina Michelotto, #30525 was repainted yellow, and twice took part in the Rally dell'Autodromo di Monza, before being sold to a certain Fabio Penariol, director of Pro Motor Sport (the team that had ordered the four other 308 Gr.Bs)! Ferrari 308 Gr.B « Michelotto » 1980 Châssis n° 30525 Titre de circulation italien Italian registration title La fin de saison 1973 marque un virage absolument radical pour la firme au Cheval Cabré, puisque, face aux quelques échecs des 24 Heures du Mans et autre, Enzo Ferrari décide de tourner tous les efforts de la Scuderia sur la Formule 1… Malgré cette décision difficile, certains clients et teams privés toquent à la porte du maestro de Maranello dans le but de prendre part aux courses de Groupe 4 : Enzo Ferrari propose alors à Giuliano Michelotto de s’atteler, avec son Officina, à la confection d’une toute nouvelle auto, prenant la base de la 308. Le 2 mars 1978, le sorcier de Padoue présente sa nouvelle née, la désormais mythique « 308 Gr. 4 Michelotto ». Là où la carrosserie, faite de fibre de verre et de kevlar, est élargie, assez peu d’éléments seront réellement modifiés. Malgré cela, la bête se targue d’un poids aux alentours d’1 tonne, et d’une puissance de près de 300 ch… Les succès seront au rendez-vous, avec en point d’orgue les deux victoires au Tour de France Automobile 1981 et 1982. Après 11 exemplaires produits, la régulation de la FIA évolue, et la 308 Michelotto passe en Groupe B (couplage du Groupe 4 et Groupe 5). Quelques modifications seront alors effectuées : modification de la carrosserie avec des ailes moins larges et la conservation de certaines parties en acier (rendant l’ensemble plus lourd de 30 kg par rapport aux Gr.4), et surtout le changement de l’injection mécanique Kugelfischer pour une injection électronique Bosch K-Jetronic. Seules quatre Ferrari 308 Gr.B Michelotto seront produites, et toutes sous la demande de Pro Motor Sport, une écurie de course Italienne. Au-delà de Michelotto, un important nombre de préparateurs tenteront leur chance dans la préparation des 308, mais c’est uniquement le sorcier de Padoue qui réussira à rendre cette auto encore plus précise et agile, grâce à un travail très particulier sur le châssis… La 308 GTB qui illustre ces pages est livrée en janvier 1980 à une certaine Caterina Fassio, résidant dans la province du Piemont, dans une rare teinte de Blu Dino. Elle se séparera de son auto en avril 1981 par l’intermédiaire du concessionnaire Ferrari de Turin au profit de Claudio Pernini, qui la revendra dès septembre à la Scuderia Automobilistica Città di Milano, une association milanaise dirigée par Virgilio Facetti (aucun lien avec Carlo Facetti, autre préparateur de 308). C’est en fait l’écurie de course de Panettoni Maina-Retequattro qui avait instigué un programme visant à faire courir des Ford RX3, Opel Kadett GTE et une Ferrari 308. Ils s’épaulent alors de Virgilio Facetti et de sa Scuderia Città di Milano pour gérer la chose, et prendre le volant de la Ferrari 308 dans les épreuves. Ce pilote est d’ailleurs resté dans l’ombre de la grande histoire de l’Automobile malgré des compétences absolument bluffantes pour les budgets qu’il regroupait : c’est lui qui préparera en premier la 308 GTB #30525 via Effegi, un atelier qu’il avait créé peu avant à Milan. Lors de sa première sortie, au 1er Rally di Limone Piemonte le 7 juillet 1984, la voiture atteint la 7e place du classement. Dès sa deuxième sortie en compétition (la voiture a entretemps ouvert le Rally Valli del Bormida), la voiture performe et atteint donc la 3e place du Rally Tre Laghi 1984,juste derrière une Lancia 037 et une Porsche 911 Gr.4 ! Après cela, la voiture participera, cette fois-ci sans grand succès, au 7e Rally dell’Autodromo di Monza. Le 19 décembre 1984, Virgilio Facetti demande donc à Giuliano Michelotto de rendre le châssis et la caisse de #30525 plus legers. Les deux italiens s’étaient en fait rencontrés à la première sortie de la voiture, au Rally di Limone Piemonte, où Michelotto avait demandé qui avait préparé le moteur de cette auto pour savoir comment il fonctionnait aussi bien ! Michelotto transmets donc #30525 aux établissements de Lino Cazzola, afin de lui offrir le même traitement que les quatre autres 308 Gr.B déjà produites par ses établissements (copie des factures présentes au dossier). Au programme : changement de la carrosserie pour une en polyester et carbon Kevlar, et surtout, évolution du châssis pour répondre aux normes de Michelotto ! Le châssis est alors numéroté 18, frappe encore visible sur la partie arrière gauche du cadre. Après sa sortie de l’Officina Michelotto, #30525 sera repeinte en jaune, et participera à deux reprises au Rally dell’Autodromo di Monza, avant d’être revendue à un certain Fabio Penariol, directeur de Pro Motor Sport (l’écurie qui avait commandé les quatre autres 308 Gr.B) ! Fiat 124 Abarth 16-Soupapes Gr. 4 1975 Chassis n° 124CSA0092699 Vintage registration TO M46466 Belgian registration Belgian registration title In the early 1970s, Fiat became fully involved in competition with the 124 Abarth Rally, a muscular version of the standard Spider. Produced in 1,000 units for Group 4 homologation, the 124 Rally shone on the roads of the World World Championship, winning the European rally title in 1975 thanks to Maurizio Verini. The example on offer here is one of nine cars painted in the colors of the Olio FIAT team by the racing department, and specially fitted by Pininfarina to reduce weight and accommodate the large gearbox of the 131 Gr. 4 that would succeed it a little later. According to Abarth, the first five cars were entered by the factory in world championships, the other 4 reserved for possible replacement or other destinations. Initially registered in Turin under the numbers TO M46458 to TO M46467, they benefited from the best evolutions with a 16-valve "testa stretta" (narrow cylinder head) engine equipped with Kugelfischer mechanical injection, developing 200 hp compared with 170 hp for the 8-valve versions. This exceptional car was built in 1975 and registered for the first time on May 22, 1975 in the name of FIAT SPA Gruppo Automobili serv Ass Rallies Torino Cso Marche n°72 with plate number "M46466 TO". A reserve car, it was sold in 1977 by Renzo Avidano, director of Abarth's racing department, to its current owner, the son of the founder of one of Belgium's most renowned Fiat dealerships, who is also the brand's Benelux importer. At its wheel, he took part in three events in the Belgian championship, which was then part of the European Championship, and even finished first in the 6 Hours of Visé in 1976 and third in the same event in 1977, before moving on to the 131 Abarth Gr. 4. Stored for several decades, it underwent a thorough and meticulous restoration in 2012. Completely stripped bare, the hull was restored to state-of-the-art condition.
