À sa sortie en 1959, la Jaguar Mk 2 n’est ni plus ni moins que la
berline de série la plus rapide du monde | il faut dire que l’idée
de proposer une berline bourgeoise et BCBG animée par un
authentique moteur de course qui a fait ses preuves au Mans
notamment relève d’une autre époque, bénie.
L’exemplaire qui illustre ces pages est une 3.8 en conduite à
gauche d’origine, livrée neuve à l’importateur officiel Jaguar
de New York en octobre 1961 (la CG collection indique 1964,
le certificat Jaguar, 1961)| à l’époque, la voiture arbore une
carrosserie couleur bronze, combinée à un intérieur noir.
La voiture fut acquise par un grand passionné français, en
Allemagne, à l’été 2015, et immédiatement expédiée en Angleterre
chez Classic Motor Cars | ayant déjà bénéficié d’une restauration
carrosserie poussée (lors de laquelle elle fut repeinte en bleu
foncé, dossier photo disponible), cette officine spécialisée lui
offrira une restauration mécanique, accompagnée de nombreuses
améliorations.
Freins neufs et améliorés, ceintures de sécurité avant et arrière,
direction assistée hydraulique, boîte 5-vitesses (boîte d’origine
fournie), radiateur aluminium et ventilateur additionnel, moteur
d’essuie-glace upgradé, caméra avant et arrière avec écran
LCD dissimulé dans le tableau de bord, etc. : la voiture bénéficie
d’améliorations qui participent à en faire l’une des meilleures
Mk 2 qu’il nous ait été donné d’essayer.

When it came out in 1959, the Jaguar Mk 2 was no more and no
less than the fastest production saloon in the world| it has to be
said that the idea of offering a bourgeois, preppy saloon powered
by a genuine racing engine that had proved its worth at Le Mans
in particular belonged to another, blessed era.
The car illustrated on these pages is an original left-hand drive
3.8, delivered new to Jaguar's official importer in New York in
October 1961 (title mention 1964)| at the time, the car had bronze
bodywork combined with a black interior.
The car was acquired by a French enthusiast in Germany in the
summer of 2015, and immediately shipped to Classic Motor
Cars in the UK| having already benefited from an extensive body
restoration (during which it was repainted in dark blue, photo
file available), this specialist dealership offered it a mechanical
restoration, accompanied by numerous improvements.
New and improved brakes, front and rear seatbelts, hydraulic
power steering, 5-speed gearbox (original gearbox supplied),
aluminium radiator and additional fan, upgraded windscreen
wiper motor, front and rear cameras with LCD screen concealed
