Collectible Watches

“The field of watchmaking is immensely rich, combining history, art, and technique. Over the centuries and through innovations, watches have adapted to our lifestyles. I always feel a strong emotion when discovering timepieces that have been carefully preserved for years. It is a true pleasure to pass them on to new collectors who will write a new chapter in their histories.”

Claire Hofmann

Over the years and through its auctions, Aguttes has forged close relationships with collectors, watchmakers, and art market professionals who are passionate about antique, vintage, and contemporary watches.

Appraisal of your collectible watches

At Aguttes, watch auctions feature vintage, sports, and contemporary watches, as well as ladies’ watches and other pieces of Haute Horlogerie and exceptional timepieces.
Most recently, the “Une histoire du temps” collection featured 80 wristwatches and portable clocks, tracing 5,000 years of history and watchmaking. This sale totaled 1.4 million euros and further expanded our network of buyers.
Our specialist, Claire Hoffman, is available to provide a free appraisal of your collectible watches and offer professional expertise as well as advice on selling or investing.

The big names and iconic models of watchmaking

As the market for collectible watches has experienced strong growth in recent years, the department organizes themed sales featuring watches from leading watchmakers for both men and women, including chronographs, vintage and modern models, and pieces in gold or steel.

The biggest names in the global luxury watch industry are featured in these sales, including Patek Philippe, Rolex, Breguet, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Omega, IWC, Universal Genève, Panerai, Piaget, and Cartier. These brands, which account for 10% of the market by volume, command the highest bids at Maison Aguttes.

Successful Auctions of Collectible Watches

Rolex watches continue to enjoy unwavering success and consistently achieve some of the highest auction prices.
Among them is the Daytona “Champagne Dial” with its 18K yellow gold chronograph, dated 1970 (sold for €172,000), and the Daytona “Paul Newman,” known as the “Dark Chocolate Dial,” dated around 1971 (sold for €550,000).

On the other hand, impressive auction results were achieved for Cartier watches such as the Crash Cartier, which caused a sensation at the Official Tour Auto 2025 Auction (sold for €235,000), or at Patek Philippe with the Nautilus, which is considered an absolute icon of 1970s watch design and one of the pinnacles of Gérald Genta’s creations. A true cornerstone of the collection of the same name, it paved the way for numerous models while remaining, in the eyes of collectors, the purest and most authentic expression of the Swiss “sport-chic” concept.

This watchmaking expertise makes these watches highly sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors of luxury timepieces.
