On Monday March 8, 2021, Aguttes organized its 28th auction entitled "Asian painters, Major Works". The selection focused on artists trained in the early 20th century at the Hanoi School of Fine Arts. It totaled more than 1.1 million euros (1,148,400 euros).

These works are joining the walls of very important collectors who have renewed their confidence in us at the beginning of the year," said the sale's expert and cataloguer of these two artists, Charlotte Aguttes-Reynier.

The centerpiece of the sale, The Jewellery box by by Mai Thu (1906-1980), fetched 297,080 euros. This delicate and intimate scene mixing Sino-Vietnamese and Western influences captured the hearts of Far Eastern enthusiasts.

The Vietnamese painter Le Pho (1906-1980) also marked the course of this sale, with two paintings of aquatic scenes, a rare subject for the master. The hammer fell at 136,500 euros and 111,000 euros, a fine result.

In a completely different register, Maternity, a delicate ink and color on silk by Le Pho, collected 88 400 euros.

The delicate painting Gladioli by Vu Cao Dam (1908-2000) found a buyer at 117,00 euros, rewarding the finesse of this floral composition.

Finally, a lacquer by the artist Tran Phuc Duyen (1923-1993) with a dreamlike landscape tripled its low estimate by reaching 65,000 euros, despite its small size, demonstrating the growing interest of connoisseurs for high quality lacquer.
