Reappearance of an Oudry drawing on the market
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, the Old Masters sale totaled over €522,000. The highlight of the sale, a drawing by Jean-Baptiste Oudry, fetched €211,900, tripling its estimate.
“The market for antique drawings has once again confirmed its dynamism. The sustained presence of enthusiasts set the pace for the auction and demonstrated that interest in exceptional works remains intact.”

The highlight of the sale, this drawing chosen by the king for the 1728 commission of a large hunting scene for the Château de Marly, reappeared at the Old Masters sale on December 4, 2025, for the first time on the market since the Gallice sale in 1934.
For nearly a century, this sheet by Oudry, passed down through the generations, has been in a private collection (Belgium). It is a rediscovery for art history and the market, and changed hands for €211,900.
Jean Baptiste Oudry (Paris, 1685-1755, Beauvais), a pupil of one of the most renowned portraitists of his time, Nicolas de Largillierre (1656–1746), depicts the figures surrounding Louis XV: probably on the left, Bonnet, a wine runner on a donkey, the Marquis de Dampierre, composer for the horn, Prince Charles de Lorraine, Grand Squire of France, the Marquis de Beringhen, First Squire to the King, the Count of Toulouse, Grand Huntsman to the King...
Both historically rich and delicate, with its white and light pink gouache highlights subtly illuminating and giving relief to the bodies, this sheet tripled its low estimate and far exceeded its high estimate.

Among the notable sales, Paysage à la cascade avec le temple de la Sibylle by Lacroix de Marseille stands out, fetching €52,000. A subject for all artists who stayed in Rome, the Tivoli waterfall has fascinated painters throughout history. Associated with the overlooking Temple of Sibyl, the Tivoli waterfall evokes an Italianate and antiquarian imagination, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for landscape painters in the 18th century. Like Vernet, Fragonard (1732-1806) and Hubert Robert (1733-1808), Lacroix de Marseille set about depicting this famous site.
