TOUR AUTO 2025 | LA VENTE OFFICIELLE€305,000 for Cartier's audacious signature
On Monday 7 April, at the Tour Auto 2025 Official Auction organised by Aguttes, an exceptional timepiece set the auction on fire: a Cartier Crash Watch from 1991, emblematic in more ways than one, fetched the remarkable sum of €305,000.
Produced in just 400 pieces, this edition of the Crash Watch embodies the boldness and artistic freedom for which Cartier is renowned. This singular model, with its distorted aesthetic, draws its inspiration from the surrealist movement and breaks with the traditional codes of watchmaking.
Accompanied by its box, its original papers and, above all, a rare provenance - that of its first and only owner - this watch had a fascinating history. It had won a competition organised by Montres Magazine in 1992, and was personally presented to the winner by Cartier icon Alain Dominique Perrin.
Its appearance at auction on the eve of the start of the Tour Auto, a legendary motoring event, was a perfect illustration of the synergy between the worlds of watchmaking and motoring. The nod to the legendary origins of the Crash Watch, supposedly born of a car accident, was all the more delicious...
With this result of €305,000, by combining the passions of watchmaking and motoring, Aguttes has once again demonstrated its ability to create a dialogue between worlds and to reveal the value of the objects it presents.
