The development of the Pursang range was hampered by initial internal problems and strikes at Bultaco, which naturally delayed the work of the Competition department. The aesthetic change was significant, with much more angular and modern lines. The suspension was now supplied by Betor, featuring rear gas shock absorbers, once again angled, and a very long front fork whose tubes extended beneath the axle.
The move to 370 cc reflected Bultaco’s determination to remain competitive in the face of increasingly aggressive international competition. As the engine capacity increased, so did the power, and the MK9 established itself as one of the most imposing Pursangs ever produced – a physical, demanding machine that embodied all the experience accumulated by the Barcelona-based brand over a decade of uninterrupted development on motocross tracks around the world.
1976 was, however, a bleak year for the brand. Financial difficulties were mounting, pressure from Japanese manufacturers had become a constant, and it was clear that Bultaco was now fighting for its survival as much as for its sporting results. The MK9 was produced against this difficult backdrop, which paradoxically makes it all the more precious, built with the last resources of a company that refused to give up.
A 1976 model is today a rare and moving testament to the twilight of a grand dame of Spanish motorcycling.

The development of the Pursang range was hampered by early internal problems and strikes at Bultaco, which, unsurprisingly, delayed the work of the Competition department. The aesthetic change is striking, with much more angular and modern lines. The suspension is now by Betor, featuring gas-filled shock absorbers at the rear—once again angled—and a very long front fork whose tubes extend below the axle.
The move to 370 cc reflects Bultaco’s determination to stay in the race against increasingly aggressive international competition. The displacement increased, and with it the power, and the MK9 established itself as one of the most imposing Pursangs ever built, a physical and demanding machine that embodied all the experience accumulated by the Barcelona-based brand over a decade of uninterrupted development on motocross circuits around the world.
However, 1976 was a bleak year for the brand. Financial difficulties were mounting, pressure from Japanese manufacturers had become structural, and it was clear that Bultaco was now fighting as much for its survival as for its sporting results. The MK9 was produced against this difficult backdrop, which paradoxically makes it an even more valuable piece, built with the last resources of a company that refused to give up.
A 1976 model is today a rare and poignant testament to the twilight of a grand dame of Spanish motorcycling.
