A year after the MK2, Bultaco has taken another step forward. The MK3 benefits from extensive work across the entire machine, featuring a redesigned frame, refined geometry and improved suspension – the result of an intense season of competition that allowed engineers to identify and rectify every weakness of the previous generation. The result is a more consistent, more efficient machine, and one that is more formidable on the varied terrain of the international circuit.
Its 250cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine reached a remarkable level of refinement in this version. Powerful, responsive and more reliable than previous versions, it propelled a machine whose modest weight remained one of its major strengths against European competition and the first Japanese challenges beginning to appear on the horizon.
1968 was a perilous year for European manufacturers, as Japanese brands prepared to shake up the market. The MK3 was one of the last purely European responses to this threat, built with the resources and conviction of a manufacturer at the peak of its powers, with production limited to the year 1968.
A model from this year is now a rare testament to a pivotal moment. A piece for collectors who read the history between the lines.
