Launched in 1964, the Matador was Bultaco’s first off-road model, marking a clear break from the road bikes the brand had produced until then. Although prototypes derived from the Sherpa S – lighter and more powerful – continued to be used in competition, the off-road segment of the range was entrusted to the Matador series. Motorcycles designed with the user in mind: fully equipped, comfortable and versatile, effective both off-road and on tarmac, they even represented a certain level of luxury. The MK2, a direct evolution of the original model, refined this offering based on initial feedback from the field. Its engine capacity was increased to 250cc, recognisable by its distinctive cylinder head.

Its 250cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine is both simple and efficient, a mechanical design built to last and to be maintained far from any fully equipped workshop. In 1965, Bultaco had only been in existence for seven years, but the technical maturity of this machine testifies to a company already fully in control of its capabilities.

A model from this year and this version is now an absolute rarity.
