« An extremely rare example delivered new in France, a fine basis for refurbishment»
The Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato occupies a unique place in Lancia’s 1960s production line-up. Designed by Ercole Spada for Zagato and launched in 1965, it translates the Fulvia’s dynamic qualities into a bespoke body, which is lighter and more aerodynamic than that of the Coupé.
Our example belongs to the second series with a steel body, produced from 1967 onwards, recognisable by its slightly revised design and more streamlined construction. Retaining the brilliant narrow-angle V4, front-wheel drive and road-holding that made the model’s reputation, the Sport Zagato stands out above all for its limited production run and the sheer elegance of its design compared to the more traditional standard Fulvias.
As evidenced by its manufacturer’s plate, this car is one of the few to have been delivered new in France! It was recently discovered in the garage of an early Fulvia Zagato enthusiast, alongside another example and a myriad of spare parts! This collector had purchased this rare 1.3 S in 1985.
Today, this car presents an interesting restoration project: the mechanics are fairly straightforward, the bodywork is in good condition despite some signs of corrosion, and the upholstery is in fine shape (only the headlining has come away).
Here, then, is a fine project, with a very reasonable estimate, for an enthusiast with a few spare weekends!
