‘Drive a Jaguar for the price of a Renault Clio!’

In the late 1960s, Sir William Lyons was faced with a realisation that his range was inefficient. It included no fewer than three luxury saloons: the Mk2, the 420 and the S-Type. The idea, therefore, was to combine these three models into a single one, which would ultimately lead to considerable savings!

The solution was found in 1968 with the launch of the XJ6. The lines were sleek, elegant and low-slung (put these cars alongside their modern counterparts and the difference is striking…), and the 6-cylinder engine powering the car is nothing short of legendary, as it is the 4.2-litre unit also found in the E-Type.

Our example was delivered new in France by Brossel, and is one of the rarest and most sought-after Series 1 models (in fact, from the very first production run). The current owner, a keen collector of Jaguar saloons, acquired it in 2007. The car was then believed to be second-hand, which its condition does indeed seem to confirm!

This XJ6 is literally a prime example of what a sensible restoration entails: from the engine, rebuilt in 2024 (10,000 km since then, and run-in completed!), to the gearbox and rear axle assembly, not to mention the fuel tanks and the cooling system – everything has been carried out in recent years! The paintwork was redone in 2000, whilst the interior remains original. A few upgrades have also been fitted: electronic ignition, a modern alternator, and H4 headlamps…

Extremely rare in this condition, this XJ6 represents a unique opportunity on the current market! Drive the most elegant family Jaguar for the price of a Clio…
