‘An extremely rare and high-performance Vespa 160 GS, one of the brand’s most sought-after models!’
The Vespa 160 GS was launched by Piaggio in the early 1960s as a technical and aesthetic evolution of the famous Gran Sport series. At a time when Italy was reinventing urban mobility, the 160 GS combined enhanced performance with functional elegance.
Succeeding the Vespa 150 GS, the 160 GS broke new ground with its larger engine capacity and refined details, whilst retaining the same philosophy of ease of use and clean lines. This model preceded the Vespa 180 SS (Super Sport), which would offer even more power.
Before the arrival of the 150 and 160 GS, Vespa scooters were clearly geared towards purely utilitarian use. They now offered qualities and performance that made riding them far more enjoyable.
The model we are presenting belonged to the father of a good Italian friend of the current owner. According to the oral history that goes with it, he is said to have bought it new.
Complete, it is presented to us in a lovely original condition, with old non-original paintwork, and would be an ideal candidate for a concours restoration. The 160 GS models are among the most sought-after Vespas, and this one deserves to be restored!
