Chassis No. 404114-019206
Spanish vehicle registration certificate
‘Mercedes’ most robust commercial vehicle, shown here in the 6-cylinder petrol version’
Lot sold as described; to be collected after the sale by appointment in north-eastern Spain
A total of 64,242 Unimog 404s were built, making it the brand’s most widely produced and best-known model.
Unlike its predecessor, the Unimog 401, the Unimog 404 is more of a small 1.5-tonne off-road truck than an agricultural vehicle. It was often used as a chassis for fire engines and military vehicles.
It is powered by the Mercedes-Benz M180, a 2.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft, which was also fitted to the 220 W187.
The model we are presenting appears to have come from the French army, like many of its counterparts.
Although roadworthy, it requires some work to restore it to its former glory and to pass the MOT test so that it can be duly registered in France (as a light vehicle).
