The Mini was born in the 1960s as Ducati’s response to a demand for light and accessible urban mobility: a compact, economical machine that was easy to handle, yet embodied all the mechanical precision of a manufacturer accustomed to building racing machines. Version 2 is the direct evolution of this founding model; refined, improved and enriched by feedback from the first generation, it represents the Mini in its most accomplished form.
Its small-displacement four-stroke engine is a mechanical legacy of Ducati’s long tradition of auxiliary engines: economical, reliable, and possessing a characteristic smoothness that immediately distinguishes the Bologna-built machines from their contemporary two-stroke counterparts. By 1972, Ducati had mastered the art of producing high-quality small engines, and the Mini 2 benefited from all the experience accumulated since the founding Cucciolo.
1972 was, however, a pivotal year for Ducati’s lightweight range. The company began to focus its resources and image on the large sports bikes that would cement its legend; the 750 GT had just been launched, and Ducati’s future was now being written in large-capacity machines. The Mini 2 is one of the last expressions of a Ducati that was still popular and accessible, before the brand turned its back on small-capacity bikes for good.
A rare transitional piece for a collector keen on every facet of a manufacturer that has excelled in every category.
